21 Mile 3 Lancashire Towers Walk
Rivington Pike, Darwen Tower and Peel Tower

An early start on a Damp, Grey and pretty chilly July Day for a 21 mile walk over the moors to visit 3 Lancashire Towers. Starting at Rivington and climbing to The Pike, Then across Spitlers Edge to Great Hill in Anglezarke before crossing to Darwen Tower. It's then a long trod across Darwen moor to reach the A666 at Cadshaw, before climbig again and passing Entweistle Reservoir to reach the Strawberry Duck pub at Entwistle. It's then a relentless climb through Crowthorn to reach Holcombe Moor and eventually Peel Tower. A real challenge of a walk in incredibley wet conditiuons (Particularly for the time of year.

This walk requires transport at either end of the walk, otherwise, it's a long walk back!!

1st climb of the day as we head up to Rivington Pike

Tony, looking windswept with Sam and James at Rivington Pike

Me looking knackered already at the same spot with Sam and James

After a walk from The Pike down the extremely wet rock path of Belmont Rd, we now head across Spitlers Edge towards Great Hill

Looking back towards Winter Hill

On onwards on the new path

A superb slabbed path leads all the way to the summit of Great Hill

A bit wet in places, and when you've only trainers on, you need your Dad to give you a piggy back !!!

1st stop of the day for a snack and Tony looks delighted !!

Leaving Great Hill and down a VERY wet stretch as we head for Darwen Tower, which is visible ahead

Climbing on to Darwen Moor and looking back to Great Hill and the path we've just followed.

Tower No.2 Darwen Tower

At Darwen Tower, That's Tony on the right :)

Tony leads the way from Darwen Tower across Darwen Moor

Darwen Moor almost beaten as we head down to the A666 at Cadshaw after dealing with an incredibly wet section of the walk

Next stop, was The Strawberry Duck at Entwistle, we didn't go in, I'd never have come out !!!

Crossing Wayho Reservoir (over the bridge )

After passing through the village of Crowthorn we clim on to the lower slopes of Holcombe Moor, (I caught them up eventually !!! After they stopped and waited for me. I was finding it difficult from this point onwards.

The paths continued to be flooded. At times it felt as though were walking in a River. Peel Tower just visible ahead.

The Tower looking tantilisingly close, but it was another hour from here

A cascading Red Brook

Tony looking like it's begining to tell, James still looking strong, Sam looking like he's just nipped round the corner to the shop !!!

And me, absolutely knackered !!

The path just below the ridge that we've just followed

And back to Red Brook

At last Peel Tower closes in

And we've made it. A really tough walk, for me at least but well worth the effort

Peel Towe, as we head off to the Car Park and the journey home
